A randomized controlled study identified the role of black tea in decreasing blood pressure levels. Participants that drank three cups of black tea daily for a period of six months had a significant decrease in blood pressure. 


Black tea is made from leaves of a tea plant called Camellia Sinensis. It is the same plant that breeds white tea and green tea. Black tea is commonly known as “red tea”. 

Black Tea is referred to as black tea in western languages due to the colour it produces, the leaves turn black once the oxidation phase is complete during production. 

 There are multiple health benefits associated with various antioxidants and polyphenols in black tea. Specifically, flavonoids are abundant in black tea, which has shown to minimize the risk of heart disease. They do this by preventing LDL cholesterol oxidation and reducing damage of both the bloodstream and artery walls. Additionally, the flavonoids in black tea can help decrease the risk of coronary heart disease. An average of 200 milligrams of flavonoids is contained in a single cup of black tea. Black tea also prevents cancer by inhibiting the formation and growth of malignant tumors. Also, the caffeine in black tea has been shown to improve mental focus and concentration by promoting blood flow in the brain.

Consuming black tea has a lot of health benefits and can be used as a daily caffeine boost. The tea is also low in calories. There are various ways to flavorize black tea and the most common methods are adding spices such as cinnamon, adding lemon juice and adding mint onto the cup of tea.

The intake of green tea has any health benefits as it is believed that sipping green tea cleanses the body from the inside and rejuvenates it.
